DanceSport South Africa Breaking Championships 2022

In preparation for the WDSF Breaking World Championships 2022 and the Breaking For Gold World Series events (2022 – 2024), DSSA will host the South African National Breaking Championships on 3rd September 2022 to select the representatives (2 BBoys and 2 BGirls) who will be selected as the SA Breaking Team 2022.

Qualification for the DSSA South African National Breaking Championships will start at the DSSA Regional Qualifiers. These regional qualifiers will present Breakers with 4 opportunities to qualify for the National Championships via 3 live battles and 1 online qualifier *.

  • Johannesburg: 6th August 2022 – Watch it now on Supersport Schools
  • Cape Town : 21st August 2022
  • East London : 20th August 2022
  • * An Online qualifier will see 4 spots available for those who are outside of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng provinces and will run between 13th – 20th August 2022.

The Categories for BGirls and BBoys will be open to all ages, but to ensure we push the development of Breaking in SA, we’d like to include a Junior category (under 16). This Junior category will not provide any direct qualification into WDSF Breaking For Gold events however, it will serve as preparation and development for future Youth Olympic Games.

The top Breakers in each category (BGirl and BBoy) from each regional qualifier will qualify as the Top 16 for the National Championships to be hosted on 3rd September 2022 in Cape Town. The Top 2 BGirls and Top 2 BBoys at the National Championships will be eligible to receive SA Protea Colours in Breaking when travelling to represent South Africa at WDSF events. All of the top 16 who wish to be eligible to receive SA Protea Colours must have a valid passport. Please note that only those who have qualified via the Regional events will be eligible to participate in the National Championships.
